Valerie holds a BFA in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology and has been a freelance photographer for the past decade. Her work is driven by her passion for exploration and adventure, and has brought her all over the world. She worked as a Senior Instructor for Red Cliff Ascent Wilderness Therapy Program, leading students in the Utah desert mountains and mentoring them in survival and life skills. She leads international and domestic trips for National Geographic Student Expeditions, teaching and mentoring teenagers while immersed in other cultures. She co-founded MAHA Retreats, creating and leading holistic, adventure retreats with emphasis on healing, nature and connection. Most recently, she just completed a 1,000 hour therapeutic massage program at Artes Místicas in Puerto Rico.
Throughout college and most of her career, Valerie has spent much of her time facilitating groups, leading trips, mentoring and teaching numerous crafts; both professionally as well as volunteering. She strives to achieve wholeness and is constructing a unique lifestyle that combines her many passions, feels fulfilling and gratifying.
Valerie is passionate about our intrinsic connection to the natural world and using food as medicine. Her appetite for learning new things is great, and she believes we are never too young nor too old to do so. She spends her time traveling, rock climbing, practicing yoga, acroyoga, water-sports, dancing, playing fiddle and bowhunting.
