Nick Berger, mentor with Portland Station, has been working in international education and youth mentoring for nearly 8 years. As the Marketing and Development Director at Carpe Diem Education, Nick currently manages the enrollment efforts and communication platforms for the Portland based international Gap-year organization. Since joining the organization in 2008, Nick has worked directly in the field facilitating travel and volunteer based programs to South America, Central America, India and East Africa, and has been involved in various aspects of programmatic support and staff training. Outside of international education, Nick has also worked with high-risk youth populations in both wilderness and urban settings at Eckerd Youth Alternatives (Boomer, NC) and Janus Youth Programs (Portland, OR).
Nick’s wanderlust was ignited on the island of Bali, Indonesia, where he had the opportunity to teach English and work on a community development initiative for sustainable tourism after his undergraduate studies. Since then, he has found his way to 5 continents and continues to look for new adventures off-the-beaten path. He believes that the most profound learning opportunities happen when individuals are challenged to step outside of their comfort zone to expand their perspectives.
